Death and Hunger in Gaza: Over a Dozen Children Killed as 70,000 Face Starvation

Gaza Strip – In the last two days, Israeli military attacks have killed more than a dozen Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, a severe hunger crisis is putting tens of thousands of people—especially children—at risk of starving.

One of the youngest victims is four-year-old Mohammed Yassine, who died from hunger. He is one of many children now suffering from extreme malnutrition. The World Food Programme says over 70,000 children in Gaza are in danger due to lack of food, clean water, and medicine.

In the past week, about 600 people have been killed as Israel continues heavy bombing and ground attacks. In Deir el-Balah, central Gaza, a strike on a tent sheltering families killed a mother and her children. Another drone attack near Khan Younis hit a family tent, killing a child.

Northern Gaza has also been hit. Five people, including two women and a child, were killed in Jabaliya, according to health officials.

Among the dead is 11-year-old Yaqeen Hammad, a popular child on social media. In another airstrike, nine of Dr. Alaa Amir al-Najjar’s ten children were killed. The only survivor, 11-year-old Adam, is in critical condition in the hospital.

For nearly three months, Israel has blocked almost all food, fuel, and medical supplies from entering Gaza. Aid groups warn that unless help arrives soon, many more children may die from hunger.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says children make up 31% of the confirmed Palestinian deaths since the fighting began 19 months ago. But the real number may be higher, as many deaths are still unreported.

A United Nations report has criticized Israel for bombing crowded areas, saying this is causing more children to be killed.
