PDP Faction Kicks as INEC Recognises Wike-backed PDP, Assures Legal Action

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has rejected the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to engage a rival faction of the party, assuring that the matter would be pursued through legal means.

Reacting to INEC’s invitation of the Abdulrahman Mohammed–Senator Samuel Anyanwu–led caretaker committee to a recent stakeholders’ meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki-led faction, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said there was no cause for alarm.

According to Ememobong, while the action was capable of creating tension, the faction would respond strictly within the ambit of the law.

Though not unexpected of the current INEC leadership, it is expected that an impartial umpire would have taken notice of the pendency of matters before the Court of Appeal and exercised restraint,” he said.

He maintained that INEC had no constitutional power to impose leadership on the party and urged PDP members nationwide to remain calm as the legal processes unfold.

We can assure our members that INEC will not choose a leadership for our party. The courts will determine the issues before them,” Ememobong added.

Turaki Inaugurates Delta PDP Caretaker Committee

Meanwhile, Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has reiterated that the PDP remains Nigeria’s only people-oriented political party and would be fully represented on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.

Turaki made the assertion in Asaba on Thursday during the inauguration of the Delta State PDP Caretaker Committee. He called on party faithful to rally behind the committee, which is expected to oversee party affairs for three months and conduct congresses across the state.

The caretaker committee, chaired by Prof. Sylvester Monye, was inaugurated by Turaki’s representative, the South-South PDP Caretaker Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, who expressed confidence that the party’s ongoing legal battles would soon be resolved.

PDP is the only party in the country that has not changed its name or logo and remains truly people-oriented,” Turaki said, expressing satisfaction with the turnout at the event.

Members of the party’s Board of Trustees, including Chief Ejiofor Onyia, Dr. Esther Uduehi, and Chief Clement, also commended party supporters for their loyalty and commitment.

In his remarks, Prof. Monye described Delta State as a stronghold of the PDP, declaring that the party would defeat any opposition in the state.

Our assignment is very simple: to remain in office for 90 days and organise credible congresses that will produce the next executive. We will not stay a day longer than required,” Monye said.

He added that the PDP was committed to deepening internal democracy anchored on the will of the people, in line with the party’s founding principles.
