Atiku, Obi, Coalition Forces Strategize to Unseat Tinubu

The coalition of opposition parties is intensifying efforts to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general election, with the aim of defeating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The group, which includes top political figures across party lines, met again yesterday to continue deliberations on the structure and platform that will carry their collective ambition.

Although a formal announcement is expected within the week, sources reveal that the coalition is still divided on two major issues including the format of the alliance and the political platform to adopt. Despite this, the momentum appears strong, with key political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former SGF Babachir Lawal attending the meeting.

Also present were PDP BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former governors Donald Duke and Rauf Aregbesola who sent a representative, former Information Minister, Professor Jerry Gana; and some northern stakeholders

While some stakeholders argued in favour of a new political platform, some others argued in favour of fusing into an existing party. However, some are seeking a return to the kind of alliance the defunct Alliance for Democracy, AD, and the All Peoples Party, APP, had by fielding a single candidate.

The committee for fusing into another political party was headed by the former governor of Cross River State, Mr Liyel Imoke; former Rivers State governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, would chair the committee on registering a new political party, with the convener of the League of Northern Democrats, LND, Dr Umar Ardo as secretary.

Meanwhle, the national chairman of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Chief Ralphs Nwosu added a new twist to the negotiations when he empathically announced that the ADC had been chosen and agreed upon as the platform.
