Wike Mocks ADC Coalition as “Gang of Expired Politicians,” Dismisses 2027 Realignment as Empty Drama

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at the recently formed anti-Tinubu coalition that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its 2027 political vehicle, branding its members as a collection of “failed and expired politicians” with nothing new to offer Nigerians.

Wike made the remarks while speaking in Abuja on Thursday, following the high-profile unveiling of the new coalition on the ADC platform earlier in the week.

The former Rivers State governor aim at each of the coalition’s leading figures, accusing them of presiding over past failures and lacking the credibility to claim they can now “rescue” the country.

“I heard David Mark say they want to rescue Nigeria. That Nigerians are not happy. But the man was Senate President for eight years, and Nigerians were happy? There was no single project in Otukpo. Not one. He was flying with a helicopter to Otukpo,” Wike said. “Nigerians were not angry then, but they are angry now?”

Wike also dismissed Mark’s credibility to lead a political revival, noting his past failures even within his local political base.

“As PDP leader in his area, he lost elections. His daughter ran under APC and won a House of Reps seat,” Wike added.

The FCT Minister went further to ridicule other coalition leaders including former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi.

“Amaechi took Chinese loans and made Nigeria so indebted. Sirika promised Air Nigeria, what happened to that? Malami was AGF, what did he do about insecurity? Tambuwal was Speaker and Governor, what impact did he leave?” he queried.

In a direct swipe at Bolaji Abdullahi, Wike said his only reason for aligning with the ADC was his political fall-out with Senator Bukola Saraki, describing the move as opportunistic rather than principled.

Wike also took a jab at the opposition’s shifting stance on public sentiment:

“When they were in power, Nigerians were happy. But once they’re out of power, suddenly Nigerians are unhappy? What kind of politics are we playing?”

He defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration against claims that insecurity and economic woes began under his watch.

“Was it under Tinubu’s government that banditry came? What is he doing? Solving the problems he met,” Wike insisted.

Despite his criticisms of the APC-led government in the past, Wike, who remains a key figure within the ruling government’s cabinet, insisted that the only credible alternative to Tinubu in 2027 would be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), provided it can resolve its internal crises.

“The only party today that can still challenge Tinubu is the PDP, if they put their house in order,” he concluded.
