Tinubu’s Aide Slams ADC Coalition: 'Desperate Politicians United Only by Hatred'

A fresh salvo has been fired at the newly formed political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga describing its members as disgruntled and desperate politicians whose only uniting force is a shared animosity toward the President.

In a strongly worded post on his official X page, Onanuga dismissed the narrative that the coalition, unveiled earlier this week with prominent figures like David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, represented a major loss to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Let the public not be deceived by the opposition’s narrative about their relevance or whether the APC will mourn their departure,” he said, insisting that most of the defectors had long abandoned the APC in spirit and deed.

He cited Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, as a prime example, noting that “Amaechi’s soul left the APC in 2022 after losing the presidential primary to President Tinubu.”

He also pointed to Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, alleging that he had been estranged from the party since Tinubu’s emergence and had failed to win the governorship ticket in Kebbi State.

As for Hadi Sirika, the ex-Minister of Aviation now facing trial for alleged contract splitting, and Rauf Aregbesola, the former Interior Minister who was expelled over anti-party conduct during the 2022 Osun election, the aide argued that these individuals had already burnt their bridges with the APC.

“The renegade Rauf Aregbesola committed anti-party activities in the last Osun election and was expelled as an unfit APC member,” he wrote.

He also took a swipe at Kashim Imam and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, labeling them as politically irrelevant figures using the ADC platform as a final political lifeline.

Imam abandoned the APC after failing to secure the vice-presidential ticket in 2022. Chief Oyegun, a former party chairman, also lost interest in the APC and has been a foundational member of this coalition since its inception.

A Party with No Ideology

Warning Nigerians against what he described as an opportunistic political alliance, the adviser urged citizens to stay vigilant.

Keep your eyes wide open. A political party with no clear agenda or ideology—whose members are united only by their hatred for President Tinubu—cannot be good for our country. It will only set us back by decades,” he wrote.

He dismissed the coalition’s credibility, calling it a fragile grouping of “desperados, hungry for power,” who are simply unwilling to endure another four years in political wilderness.

They want power at all costs because they cannot endure another four years in the political wilderness or be banished to political winter and irrelevance,” he added.

The post concluded with a prediction that the alliance would soon collapse under the weight of competing personal interests and unresolved ambition.

What is certain is that the group will soon unravel due to their irreconcilable personal ambitions.”
