Anambra Police Smash Bomb Factory, Dismantle Secessionist Stronghold in Ihiala

The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a local bomb factory and neutralized several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a raid on a secessionist hideout in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the hideout—one of the last known strongholds of the secessionist group—had remained impenetrable for over two years, serving as a base for attacks and criminal operations in the state.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, was led by a joint security team comprising the police, military, and the Anambra State Vigilante Service.

“During the operation, a local bomb factory was destroyed, while assorted locally made improvised explosive devices were recovered and demobilised,” Ikenga stated.

He noted that one of the IEDs buried near the camp exploded during the raid, damaging a portion of the road and acting as a defensive mechanism meant to keep security forces at bay. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the operation.

Ikenga emphasized that security forces are maintaining pressure on the area to ensure it is fully cleared and reclaimed from criminal elements.
