Power Play in Abuja: Jigawa Delegate Protest Shakes Atiku–Obi Coalition Meeting

A major coalition meeting with Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and other top politicians turned chaotic when Jigawa State delegates disrupted the event and stormed the stage to protest who would speak for them.

The event, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, brought together top political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. It was organized by the National Political Consultative Group (North) to discuss forming a political alliance.

Trouble started when Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, named someone to represent Jigawa State. But some delegates from the state disagreed, saying the person didn’t truly speak for them. In protest, they rushed the stage, blocked the speaker, and refused to let him talk.

Security agents from the police, DSS, and private guards quickly stepped in to protect the top politicians as the scene grew tense. The scuffle lasted several minutes.

Calm was finally restored when Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, was chosen as the state’s representative, along with another delegate. The meeting continued afterwards.

Organizers say the incident won’t stop the group’s plans to work together.
