Sanwo-Olu to Lead Over 2,000 Delegates at Lagos Fire Safety Conference 2.0

In a strong show of commitment to public safety and proactive disaster prevention, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to headline the Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 2.0 (LIFSC 2.0), a major gathering of over 2,000 delegates aimed at transforming fire safety awareness and response across Lagos State.

The three-day conference, scheduled for August 12–14, 2025, will take place at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island. With the theme “Leveraging Technology and Community Engagement to Prevent Fires,” this year’s event builds on the momentum of LIFSC 1.0, which drew more than 1,800 participants in 2024.

Organised under the auspices of the Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, the conference brings together industry experts, first responders, policymakers, market leaders, and community influencers to address the root causes of fire emergencies in the state.

Focus on Prevention and Innovation

Commissioner for Special Duties, Gbenga Oyerinde, described the event as a flagship component of the Governor’s THEMES+ Agenda, which emphasizes Public Order and Safety as a central pillar of governance.

“The Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 2.0 is a cornerstone of our proactive approach to safeguarding lives, property and the environment. We are fostering collaboration and empowering communities with knowledge to build a more resilient Lagos,” Oyerinde noted.

Backing the vision, Permanent Secretary Sesan Ogundeko stressed the importance of continuity in fire safety conversations, saying, “The change we desire in Lagos must be driven by consistency, awareness, and community involvement.”

Fire Prevention Is Everyone’s Business

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, spotlighted a sobering statistic that over 80% of fire emergencies in Lagos stem from carelessness. She emphasized that LIFSC 2.0 aims to turn that tide by cultivating a strong culture of prevention.

“The best fire fought is the one prevented,” Adeseye stated.

The conference is about equipping Lagosians with the knowledge and tools needed to reduce fire risks, respond effectively, and safeguard both lives and investments.

A Broader Mission for a Safer Lagos

LIFSC 2.0 will feature interactive panels, real-world simulations, and demonstrations of cutting-edge fire prevention technology. The goal is not just to talk about safety, but to live it.

As Lagos continues to urbanize rapidly, the risks of fire-related disasters remain ever-present. With LIFSC 2.0, the state government is positioning itself not only as a responder to crises but as a leader in risk reduction and resilience planning.

Why It Matters

LIFSC 2.0 isn’t just another policy conference. It represents a growing shift in how public safety is approached in Lagos by integrating community engagement, data-driven strategies, and emerging technologies to reduce risks and save lives.

This is a vital conversation for a commercial capital like Lagos, where bustling markets, dense residential areas, and industrial clusters are all potential fire hotspots. The conference promises to deliver actionable solutions, foster stronger public-private partnerships, and ensure no resident is left behind in the state’s fire safety strategy.
