Tinubu’s Timely Intervention Averted Anarchy in Rivers – Gov. Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has attributed the relative calm in the state to the timely intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amid the protracted political crisis rocking the state.
The media aid to the suspended Governor, Nelson Chukwudi revealed this in a statement sent to the newsmen.

“We are already in the peace process,” Fubara said. “I want you to thank Mr President for his timely intervention to salvage the situation and stabilise the polity and the state. If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different.”

The governor added that peace and reconciliation efforts were now underway across the executive and legislative arms of the state government, with a strong possibility of restoring past relationships.

“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will come back to your offices; not just at the executive arm, but also the legislative arm.... And I also believe that the strong relationships we had before will return, and we will begin to work together again, for the good and progress of the State. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit.”

In what appeared to be a softening of tone toward his political benefactor and predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike—now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory—Fubara hinted at reconciliation.

“There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my Oga,” Fubara said, assuring supporters that “we are meeting, we will reconcile.”

The governor also acknowledged the frustrations felt by some over the crisis but urged all parties to embrace peace. “What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit. We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. The interest of the State is paramount.”

According to him, the political turbulence had hindered the administration’s plans to showcase major developmental strides during the two-year anniversary, but he expressed optimism that his government would soon bounce back stronger and more focused on delivering good governance.

Fubara ended by thanking President Tinubu once again, along with other key figures who pushed for peace behind the scenes. “He acted with wisdom at the right time,” the governor said. “Let me also thank him personally… and the personalities across the country who moved in and appealed to him to intervene.”
