The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements in Abuja, describing them as "unprecedented" and a clear testament to the President's commitment to national development.
Wike made the remarks on Thursday during an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects slated for commissioning as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s second year in office.
Speaking to journalists after the tour, the former Rivers State governor said he was impressed by the pace and quality of work being carried out across the FCT under Tinubu's administration.
“Tinubu’s achievements in the FCT are unprecedented, and in the next two and four years, you’ll see what is going to happen in this country,” Wike declared. “It has never happened before.”
He added that even long-time critics of the federal capital’s development were now acknowledging the transformation taking place.
“Yesterday I said the simple truth — all of us who are critics have said before that Abuja was not working, but have now confessed that Abuja is now working. Who has made it to work? It is Mr President,” Wike said.
Wike noted that the visible transformation of the FCT was part of a broader national development effort driven by President Tinubu’s leadership. “His performance is evident in every part of the country,” he said, adding that Nigerians were already calling for the President to be given another opportunity beyond 2027.
During the inspection, Wike visited several project sites, including the completed Apo-Wassa Junction Road (the left-wing service lane of the Outer Southern Expressway), which he confirmed was ready for commissioning.
He also visited the N20 Interchange linking Wole Soyinka Way to the Murtala Mohammed Expressway, popularly known as Kubwa Expressway, and a new access road connecting Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu District — all of which, he said, would be completed and inaugurated soon.
“I cannot give anything less,” Wike emphasized, commending the contractors for their commitment and assuring residents that the government remained focused on making Abuja a model capital city.
The minister reiterated Tinubu’s directive that only the best would be good enough for Nigerians. “You can see the infrastructure in terms of roads. It is unimaginable, and we will continue to do that,” he stated.
Wike concluded by calling on FCT residents to fulfill their civic duties and support the administration’s efforts to improve the capital for the benefit of all Nigerians.
