A United States backed plan for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza proposes a 60-day truce and a large-scale exchange of hostages and prisoners.
The proposal as seen by Reuters outlines the release of 28 Israeli hostages — both alive and deceased — within the first week, in return for 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and the remains of 180 Palestinians held by Israel.
The plan, reportedly supported by U.S. President Donald Trump along with Egypt and Qatar as mediators, also includes the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza once Hamas agrees to the terms of the ceasefire.
On Thursday, the White House said Israel had agreed to the U.S. ceasefire proposal.
Israeli media said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the families of hostages held in Gaza that Israel had accepted the deal presented by President Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas announced that they were reviewing the plan and would respond on Friday or Saturday.
