The Federal Government has inaugurated a 10-member Presidential Committee on the Implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation.
The committee, which is chaired by President Bola Tinubu, is charged with the core mandate of ensuring a robust, coordinated and legally compliant implementation of DPI that aligns with Nigeria’s development targets.
Chaired by President Bola Tinubu, the committee is tasked with delivering a coordinated, legally sound rollout of DPI, which focuses on digital identity, financial payments, and data exchange.
Unveiling the committee in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume—represented by Minister of Communications, Dr. Bosun Tijani—said DPI is key to creating jobs, boosting public service delivery, and empowering citizens.
”DPI is the key to unlocking new avenues for growth, creating jobs, improving public service delivery and empowering our citizens. To achieve this vision, we must establish a well-coordinated and robust governance structure to drive its implementation”, the SGF was quoted as saying.
Top officials on the committee include Head of Civil Service of The Federation; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; Minister of Finance, Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Minister of Interior; Minister of Budget and National Planning; Director General, National Identity Management Commission NIMC; and, Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA.
NIMC’s DG, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, pledged full support, calling DPI a tool to enhance the "overall quality of life." NITDA's DG, Dr. Kashifu Inuwa, stressed the importance of unified databases. NIBSS boss Premier Oiwoh emphasized local solutions for identity and payment systems.
The committee aims to steer Nigeria toward a modern, inclusive digital future.
