Ife Crisis: O'odua Students Frowns At Bias Nature Of The Police

PRESS STATEMENT DELIVERED BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF O'ODUA STUDENTS ON THE LOPSIDED INTERVENTION OF THE POLICE IN IFE CRISIS.

Protocols,
Eledumare,

The foremost noble Laurent Oluwole Soyinka noted that "The man died in him who remained silent in face of tyranny"

We are appalled by the manner at which the police are handling its investigation on the recent crisis in Ile-Ife, Osun State that has resulted to the death of over 40 people.

The Ethnic bias that is vividly pronounced in the Nigeria Police investigation can set the nation ablaze and build up ethnic tension as a result of hatred already established by the ruler of this country over the years

The entire students of the Oduduwa Nation as law abiding citizens condemn the  act of vandalism and the killing of innocent people in Ile-Ife, but we must bring to the cognizance of the Nigeria Police that its a two party fighting affair and not a unilateral attack by one party. In essence, both parties should be culpable, but it came to our amazement that the arrested are only of Yoruba extraction when the crisis involves the Yoruba and the Hausa. Crime must be treated as crime and no hint of ethnic superiority and dominance must be seen.  Such could send a bad signal to the entire Yoruba populace.

So strange, the Yoruba have been arrested, taken out of their ancient town and State, where there is a State governor as well as the  commissioner of police.

The same Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who intervened promptly in the Ile-Ife crisis by  deploying the Police Special Intervention Force, comprising Five Units of the Police Mobile Force , Five Cells of Counter Terrorism Unit, Conventional Policemen, Special Anti Robbery Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Technical Intelligence Unit, SIB, detachment of EOD, Police K9 (Sniffer Dogs Section), could not curtail the crisis bedevilling Southern Kaduna and Agatu in Benue  State.

It is worrisome that crimes and atrocities committed by Fulani herdsmen against other tribes
are not being perceived as crimes that necessitated security agencies intervention.

We wish to condemn the silence of the Yoruba leaders over this matter that is threatening to erupt into an inferno. Your silence is a betrayal of the whole Yoruba Nation and the entire Oduduwa students community. We must commend the leaders that had intervened in the crisis, posterity will be a good judge.

As the conscience of the Oduduwa nation,  we must warn that if this situation is not urgently reversed and the suspects released immediately,  we shall shut down the streets of Yorubaland to any Fulani man, cattle rearer, trader or politician. They shall be declared persona non grata within the Yoruba geographic space until the Nigeria Police do the right thing.

A word is enough  for the wise!
