Tension in Ekiti as Aspirant Alleges Military Intimidation by Hon. Ojuawo

Tensions escalated in Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 on Sunday, April 5 2026, following allegations of military intimidation involving a federal lawmaker, Hon. Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo.

The Engr. Toyin Okoro Campaign Council has strongly condemned what it described as the “unacceptable deployment” of over 20 military personnel to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Ise-Ekiti. According to the council, the personnel were allegedly deployed at the instance of Hon. Ojuawo, a retired Air Vice Marshal and current representative of the constituency in the National Assembly.

In a statement released on the incident, the council claimed the presence of armed military officers created fear among party members and disrupted political activities at the secretariat. It described the alleged action as a threat to democratic values, freedom of association, and party unity.

“This reckless action is a direct assault on democratic principles and the constitutional rights of citizens,” the statement read.

The council further warned that the involvement of military personnel in civilian political matters could lead to a breakdown of law and order if not urgently addressed.

The campaign council called on key authorities, including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commissioner of Police, to intervene and investigate the situation. Traditional leadership in Ise-Ekiti was also urged to step in to prevent escalation.

Despite the tensions, the campaign council appealed to its supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasising its commitment to democratic processes.

The statement also challenged Hon. Ojuawo to present his performance record to constituents, rather than allegedly resorting to intimidation tactics.

As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Ojuawo had not publicly responded to the allegations.
