The newly elected President of the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union (FESSU), Ekiti State University (EKSU) chapter, Comrade Ayodeji Adesanya, popularly known as Orewa Ayo Peters, has declared that his emergence is not for celebration, but a solemn responsibility to serve.
Referencing the late Chief Moshood Abiola’s famous declaration, Adesanya assured students that his administration would restore hope and redefine the purpose of the union. “My emergence has surely given Eksuites hope,” he said. “We are working for effectiveness. Students should know FESSU is an organization that truly cares.”
His tone throughout the interview reflected a grounded and deliberate mindset, keenly aware of the expectations that now rest on his shoulders. “This is a call to action,” he reiterated. “It’s time to deliver.”
One of the most notable moments of the interview came when Adesanya was asked about his defeated opponent, Comrade Omotayo Olaniyan (aka Leo). Dismissing the idea of rivalry, Adesanya responded with characteristic warmth and diplomacy.
“Like my name says, I am ‘Orewa’. I’m a friend, not an enemy. The only thing that separated us was the election. That’s behind us now. I’m working with everyone, including Leo.”
This stance of reconciliation and inclusiveness signals a leadership style focused on unity, healing political divides, and engaging all stakeholders in student welfare and progress.
On the conduct of the election, Adesanya kept it brief but positive: “It went well. It’s okay.” His reserved assessment may speak to a broader focus, his eyes are clearly on the road ahead rather than the race already won.
The president-elect hails from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, and is widely known for his grassroots engagement and student activism. His nickname, Orewa, meaning “friend of all,” has become more than a moniker, it’s shaping up to be the guiding philosophy of his leadership.
