Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria – The Kayode Ojo Campaign Organisation has raised fresh allegations against Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State, accusing him of financial mismanagement, intimidation of political opponents, and failure to deliver visible development despite receiving billions in federal allocations.
Addressing journalists today, the campaign team said the allegations were part of its commitment to ensure accountability as the state prepares for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary scheduled for October 2025.
APC Primary and Grassroots Mobilisation
According to the organisation, Engineer Kayode Ojo, a frontline aspirant in the 2026 governorship race, has begun mobilising party supporters across the grassroots in line with APC rules for the forthcoming primary. The campaign emphasised that its mobilisation efforts have been “decent and issue-based,” without resorting to violence or character assassination.
The team said Ojo’s aspiration was driven by a determination to “rescue Ekiti State from economic bondage and political servitude.”
Allegations of Mismanagement
The statement accused Governor Oyebanji’s administration of failing to justify the state’s huge fiscal inflows, citing figures from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The campaign alleged that between June 2023 and June 2025, the state government received ₦286.23 billion in federal allocations, while Ekiti’s 16 local governments reportedly got a combined monthly allocation of ₦6.5 billion. It further alleged that internally generated revenue (IGR), said to exceed ₦70 billion, was being mismanaged.
In addition, the campaign claimed the governor obtained a controversial ₦90 billion bond, allegedly facilitated by private financial interests in connivance with political allies.
Despite these inflows, the Ojo campaign argued, many communities in Ado-Ekiti lack motorable roads and electricity, while major projects such as the state capital’s overhead bridge remain stalled.
Workers’ Welfare and Unpaid Benefits
On welfare, the group alleged that the administration could only boast of paying workers’ 2018 leave bonuses, while gratuity arrears for pensioners remain outstanding. It further accused the government of prioritising “endorsement rallies” for re-election over the welfare of workers and artisans.
Claims of Intimidation and Suppression
The campaign also alleged that the governor had been threatening APC ward and local government executives against hosting other aspirants, describing such moves as undemocratic.
It accused the government of orchestrating the arrest of its supporters on “fictitious charges” and called on security agencies, including the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure a level playing field ahead of the primary.
“We plead with the leadership of the APC in Ekiti State to eschew partisanship and embrace all aspirants as one family,” the campaign said, while also urging President Bola Tinubu and the national APC leadership to caution the governor against harassment of party members.
The statement urged Governor Oyebanji to “shed the toga of an autocrat and behave like a democrat,” stressing that the forthcoming APC primary “is not a do-or-die affair.”
The campaign assured supporters of its commitment to continue mobilising across all 16 local governments of the state, calling for calm, unity, and steadfastness as the primary election approaches.
