Tinubu to Lead Special FEC Tribute for Late Buhari on July 17

The Special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session dedicated to honoring the late President Muhammadu Buhari has been rescheduled to Thursday, July 17, 2025. Originally planned for Tuesday, the session was postponed due to logistical reasons surrounding the late president's funeral arrangements.
President Bola Tinubu had initially summoned this special session to pay tribute to President Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, in London after battling a prolonged illness. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu had declared a seven-day national mourning period with flags flying at half-staff across the country.

The postponement was announced to avoid scheduling conflicts with the state funeral planned in President Buhari's hometown, Daura, Katsina State, also scheduled for Tuesday. The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will announce the new date for the FEC session following the conclusion of funeral proceedings.

President Tinubu is expected to lead the session on Thursday, where tributes will be paid to the late leader, recognizing his significant contributions to Nigeria.
