Former Ekiti Deputy Governor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka Resigns from PDP

Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, has announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), marking the end of his decades-long association with the party.

In a letter dated July 24, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of his Okeruku Ward in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Olusola-Eleka conveyed his decision to formally withdraw his membership from the PDP, effective immediately.

“My sincere appreciation goes to the party leadership at all levels, as well as to the numerous members and supporters who have stood by me over the years in Ekiti State and beyond,” he wrote.

Olusola-Eleka, who served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2014 to 2018 under Governor Ayodele Fayose, noted that the party had once provided a valuable platform for public service and leadership. He was also the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2018 election, which he narrowly lost to Former Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, the former deputy governor expressed disillusionment with the party’s current trajectory. He stated that after careful consultation and introspection, he had concluded that the PDP had veered off its foundational path of offering constructive opposition and credible leadership.

“I find it difficult to continue associating with the PDP in its current state,” he noted, describing the party as “significantly derailed” from the values that once defined it.

The letter was acknowledged and signed by the ward chairman, Mr Ilesanmi Adegoke confirming receipt of the original copy.

Olusola-Eleka’s resignation comes at a time of growing unease within the PDP, as the party continues to struggle with internal divisions and a weakening national presence. His departure adds to the growing list of defections that analysts say could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While he has yet to declare a new political allegiance, observers are closely watching to see whether Olusola-Eleka will align with the ruling APC, one of the emerging third forces, or pursue a different political route altogether.
