Flood Hits Ijan Ekiti Community — Resident Cries Out for Help

A resident of Ijan-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Ogunmiloyo Francis Idowu has raised an alarm following a flood that submerged parts of the Imekun community, cutting off roads and rendering homes waterlogged.

Ogunmiloyo made this appeal in a statement posted on his social media page. He shared disturbing images of the flood, revealing how the recurring flood continues to overwhelm the Araromi/Agbogi/Olugede streets of the Isuru Quarter. According to him, the latest downpour completely submerged the road and bridge, isolating residents and making access impossible.

"These pictures below show the state of my father's house presently after the heavy downpour this morning. It's been a reoccurring flood and at some point, the house was almost submerged and every effort I've personally made every time has proved not to be enough to salvage the situation" Ogunmiloyo stated.

The resident described a recurring nightmare, each rainfall threatening lives, properties, and the few remaining routes in and out of the community. Despite his repeated personal interventions, the situation has only worsened with time.

The road and the bridge have already been submerged and cut off from passages and presently no one can come out of the houses along this axis” he added.

The resident appealed for urgent intervention to prevent further damage. While the exact extent of damage across the wider area remains unverified, the situation paints a grim picture of infrastructural neglect. This case underscores the growing vulnerability of flood-prone areas in Ekiti State and beyond, where poor drainage systems, blocked waterways, and lack of coordinated response mechanisms continue to expose residents to environmental hazards.
