Amid deepening internal rifts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has formally withdrawn from all agreements previously reached with party leaders, citing a lack of trust and flagrant violations of resolutions meant to stabilize the party.
In a detailed statement released on Sunday, Wike lashed out at PDP governors, particularly Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, whom he described as the "architect" of the party’s current crisis. According to Wike, attempts to restore unity within the PDP through recent high-level meetings have been sabotaged by dishonesty and betrayal from within.
“It is disheartening to note that even before the Bukola Saraki Reconciliation Committee began its work, the gentleman’s agreement we reached at Saraki’s Guest House was already being crudely violated,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor recounted several meetings aimed at resolving the party's internal discord, including one in Lagos with the G5 group and another in Abuja at the residence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki. He stated that although resolutions were reached—affirming, among other things, the position of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary—those agreements have since been ignored.
Wike accused Governors Makinde and Peter Mbah of Enugu State of undermining the peace process by engineering parallel decisions and actions that violate the party’s internal rules, such as attempting to replace the National Secretary and orchestrating unauthorized meetings.
One notable flashpoint was the recent botched PDP zonal elective congress in Jos. Wike said the event was invalidated because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to attend due to the unauthorized signatory on the invitation letter.
“I have been in this party since 1998 and have worked tirelessly for its survival. It is on record that none of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party,” Wike emphasized, expressing frustration that his loyalty has been met with political betrayal.
Declaring his withdrawal from all previous reconciliatory agreements, Wike vowed to continue fighting until "justice is attained."
His latest declaration adds to the mounting tension within the PDP as the party grapples with internal leadership struggles ahead of critical upcoming elections.
