Fayose's Bursary Is A Scam: Ekiti Students Are More Than 2,800 -FESSU

RE: FAYOSE APPROVES BURSARY/SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TO EKITI STUDENTS.*

Early this morning, a shocking rumor yet confirmed was received by us informing the general public of the State Governor's approval of disbursement of bursary awards to 2,805 students only, 184 Law students, 60 physically challenged and scholarship awards to 450 undergraduate students and 198 postgraduate students.

It should be brought to notice that this is the only bursary awards that will be disbursed by the Governor Ayo Fayose led administration.

Let us quickly bring to notice the previous bursary and scholarship awards payment quotations so far, according to reports of the 2012/2013 and the 'last received' Bursary awards disbursement, it was recorded that 9,403 students obtained bursary awards forms and 7,350 students benefitted from it.

It should be recollected that this is the only bursary disbursement of this present administration and according to the activities after the release of the forms and interests shown by Ekiti students, over 3000 students obtained this form from Ado Local Government, over 2000 students obtained forms from Ikere Local Government, over 2000 students from Irepodun/Ifelodun, over 1000students from Ekiti West Local Government and other local governments totalling about over 20,000 students who obtained the bursary and scholarship forms.

We find it condemnable that over 3years in office of this administration only 2,805 students could benefit from this dividends of democracy.

As a matter of fact, this sort of dividends of democracy needs transparency and accountability, but reverse is the case on this issue.

There was no time for once when this present State Government were transparent as regards this scheme.

An accountable government will make known the total number of applicants, eligible students and many other things.

If over 20,000 Ekiti students obtained forms and only 2,805 students are considered, then one begins to ask if the remaining over 18,000 applicants are not students or do we have just 2,805 students in Ekiti State?

We make bold to assert that we reject such ridiculous numbers of beneficiaries that was announced earlier today as we have conceived it as a scam.

The commissioner of education also claimed that the present State Government claimed to have also paid 2012/2013 bursary awards, we fault this lie from him as the said bursary was paid by the Kayode Fayemi led administration as we have evidences of this payment as attached to this release.

If a government has used  over three years in office and the only time they will be paying bursary, such disbursement is made to just 2,805 students it shows how students have not been prioritized.

We condemn this act and  request for transparency and increase in numbers of beneficiaries to a reasonable number.

This scam and game of trick from the State Government doesn't stop our protest for students pressing demands as earlier scheduled to hold tomorrow, students are to get prepared for tomorrow's protest as we shall demand for an increase in the numbers of beneficiaries, immediate payment of the bursary, employment opportunities for our teeming youths, positive actions to ensure the reopening of College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, fulfillment of promises made by the state government to the Union.
