Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, on Sunday joined thousands of indigenes and guests at the 2025 Ojúde Ọba Festival, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to preserving Ijebu cultural heritage and fostering inclusive development across the state.
Governor
Abiodun, clad in full traditional regalia, an elegantly designed agbádá, fila,
and coral beads, led his delegation in paying homage to the Awujale of
Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, during the annual cultural
celebration held in Ijebu-Ode.
In a statement
shared on his X page, the governor described the festival as “a timeless
celebration of our heritage, unity, and unwavering loyalty to the revered
throne of the Awujale.” He noted that the occasion was not just ceremonial but
an “affirmation of our enduring commitment to the culture that defines us as
Ijebu people.”
Cultural Symbolism and Leadership
Governor
Abiodun emphasized that his appearance and that of his team were designed not
for showmanship, but to honour the sacredness of the event and reflect the
dignity of the Ijebu people.
“Our
presence was a declaration of identity—an expression of grace, tradition, and
responsible leadership,” he said.
The
festival, which draws “regberegbe” age-grade groups and dignitaries from across
Nigeria and the diaspora, is a highlight of the Ijebu cultural calendar and one
of the most prominent traditional festivals in the Southwest.
A Vision for Ogun’s Future Rooted in Culture
While
celebrating the vibrancy of Ijebuland’s customs, the governor also used the
opportunity to reflect on the future of Ogun State.
“Together,
we will continue to safeguard this vibrant heritage while building a prosperous
and inclusive Ogun State that honours its past and embraces its future,” he
declared.
The 2025
Ojúde Ọba Festival once again showcased the enduring influence of traditional
institutions in promoting unity, identity, and continuity in the face of modern
challenges. Governor Abiodun’s participation underscored the critical role of
political leadership in reinforcing cultural pride and community cohesion.
